Its interactive exhibits include many original locomotives, giving an exciting insight into the country’s historic railway system.
For those with a love of modern art Swindon has plenty to interest you in the form of the Swindon Museum & Art Gallery. There are works of art from eminent artists such as Henry Moore on show, as well as important local collections of artefacts from both prehistoric and Roman times, providing something for all interests.
For great value shopping check out the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Great Western shopping village that has no less than 110 stores, making it Europe’s largest covered designer outlet. Great names such as Nike, Mark & Spencer and Gap can all be found in one convenient setting, alongside plenty of restaurants to refuel at when you need a break.
For a day out that the British weather can’t spoil, take a trip to the Oasis Leisure Centre located on North Star Avenue. Here you’ll discover a sizeable swimming pool complete with wave making machine and waterslides. Once youve played around in the water check out the café and bar area. Alternatively opt for further entertainment with their squash courts, fully equipped gym, bowling green, or take the kids to the soft play area.
Whilst staying in Swindon a fun idea is to take a drive out to see some of the surrounding countryside including the picturesque Lydiard Park. Aside from the 260 acres of parkland to explore at your leisure, there is a wonderful house boasting a fascinating history just waiting to be found.
